Fed: ACF warns govt against allowing oil exploration on reef

Conservationists are urging the federal government to quash any industry plans for
oil exploration off the Great Barrier Reef.

The federal government may block the bid by a Perth-based mining company to survey
for oil prospects the area, located 50-70 kilometres from the world heritage listed site.

The Australian Conservation Foundation wants the government to immediately block the
bid, saying the area is too environmentally sensitive.
