Ath: Hooker says gold medal win yet to sink in

A sleepless STEVE HOOKER says becoming the first Australian male to win an Olympic
track and field gold medal in 40 years still hasn't sunk in.

The 26-year-old won the pole vault at the Beijing Games late last night .. setting
an Olympic record of 5.96 metres in the process.

For HOOKER .. it's all been a blur since his remarkable triumph in which he faced do-or-die
jumps four times to stay in the event.

He says he's still the same guy he was yesterday .. but he hasn't been to bed yet and
he may feel differently when he wakes up.
